Overview:
Moodle is an open-source Content Management, Course Management, and Learning Management System. It is extremely powerful and, although free to download and install, it rivals the performance and featureset of many paid-for LMSs. Moodle is reportedly the world's most popular LMS for small to medium organisations with less than 5,000 users. There are hundreds of thousands of implementations worldwide and tens of millions of users: http://moodle.net/stats/
Known Issues:
Moodle is generally quite compatible with Captivate content, although it's support for SCORM 1.2 is reportedly much better than support for SCORM 2004.
